Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to question if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional championship, took control to push for a third set.

He defended four early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
