PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
