World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
